KEENE, N.H. - Graduate students
Victoria Alomar (Naranjito, Puerto Rico) and
Ali Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) combined for 23 kills, but the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team dropped a straight-set decision to host Keene State College at Spaulding Gymnasium on Saturday afternoon.
WestConn was edged, 26-24, 25-23, 26-24, and are now 8-5 overall and 1-1 in the Little East Conference.
The Owls improve to 10-3 overall and are 1-0 in league action.
Junior
Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) conducted the offense with precision as she dished out 36 assists on the afternoon. The 2019 LEC Rookie of the Year registered eight digs, tying
Victoria Korzan (Southbury, Conn.) for the game lead, and had an assisted block.
Freshman
Olivia Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y.) recorded a game-high three service aces for WestConn.
Sydney Johnson and Ali McLoughlin paced KSC with 10 and nine kills, respectively. Johnson and Sarah Williams joined McMaster and Korzan with a game-high eight defensive digs.
Kacie Blanchet handed out 34 assists and had four digs.
WestConn travels to intra-state rival Eastern Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 29. First serve against the Warriors is set for 7 pm at Geissler Gym.
