Monteleone Racks Up Nine Aces as Women's Volleyball Blanks RIC & Sarah Lawrence

DANBURY, Conn. - Sophomore setter Olivia Monteleone (Cold Spring, N.Y.) tallied nine service aces to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team to a pair of victories at Feldman Arena on Saturday afternoon. She notched four in a 3-0 (25-13, 25-7, 25-17) win over Little East Conference nemesis Rhode Island College in the opener before ringing up another five in the late afternoon non-conference win over Sarah Lawrence, 3-0 (25-15, 25-17, 25-14). The Anchorwomen would earn a 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 25-17) win over the Gryphons in the neutral matchup.

WestConn jumped out to a red-hot start against RIC and would not look back. Senior Abbi Debes (New Milford, Conn.) bashed a team-high nine kills without committing an error, while junior setter Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) set up a match-high 24 assists. Junior middle hitter Taylor Rohan (Yonkers, N.Y.) chipped in with four kills, two solo and two block assists.

The hosts came out of their break and continued to pour it on against Sarah Lawrence. Debes banged out match-highs of nine kills and five solo blocks. Graduate student Skylar Kellam (Fishkill, N.Y.) displayed her defensive prowess with 16 digs, while Rohan and graduate student Ali Brochu (Winsted, Conn.) finished with eight kills apiece.

With the wins, WestConn improved to 7-4 overall and 1-0 in LEC play, while RIC moved to 3-5 and 0-1. Sarah Lawrence now stands at 1-7.
