Rory McMaster (Canton, Mich.) handed out 29 assists, collected seven digs and registered three kills to lead the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 sweep, 25-21, 25-18 and 25-11, over Mitchell College on Wednesday night at Yarnall Athletic Center.
WestConn, which improves to 16-7 on the season, had its way at the net with
Victoria Alomar (Naranjito, P.R.) and Abbie Debes (New Milford, Conn.) each tallying a match-high eight kills.Â
Victoria Korzan (Southbury, Conn.) and
Taylor Rohan (Yonkers, N.Y.) contributed seven and six put-aways, respectively for the winners.
The visitors hit .380 on Wednesday with 40 kills on 79 attempts and just 10 miscues.
Alomar and
Skylar Kellam (Fishkill, N.Y.) led WestConn with 11 and 10 defensive digs, respectively.
Olivia DeLoach and Jade Cain registered seven and six kills for the Mariners, which drop to 6-14 on the season. DeLoach and Claire Binfield contributed eight digs for the hosts.
WestConn wraps up the regular season with a crucial tri-match at University of Southern Maine on Saturday, October 30. It will take on the Huskies at noon then Curry College at 2 pm. Â
Coming into Wednesday's action, WestConn was in a five-way tie for second place in the Little East Conference with a 4-3 mark.Â
Plymouth State University has already clinched the LEC regular-season title at 8-0 and will receive one of the post-season league tournament's first-round byes. WestConn, Eastern Connecticut State University, Keene State College, University of Massachusetts Dartmouth and Boston will battle to the end for second place, and the other quarterfinal bye, on Saturday.Â
