Box Score BOSTON, MA – Despite a late second half goal from junior Jasmine Grey (Naugatuck, CT), the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team fell at Little East Conference foe UMass-Boston, 3-2, on Saturday afternoon. With the loss, the Colonials dropped to 2-6 overall and 1-1 in league play, while the Beacons improved to 5-3 and 1-0.
"We got off to a good start but had a bit of a lapse midway through the game," stated WestConn head coach Alex Harrison following the contest. "We've got to put this behind us quickly and look ahead to hosting Eastern," he added.
The Colonials pierced the scoring column 21:49 into the game when rookie forward Kaleigh Panek (Shelton, CT) snatched the ball from a defender and buried her third goal of the season, putting the visitors ahead, 1-0.
However, the Beacons retaliated with the next three scoring strikes. Allie Crawford connected on a long free kick, evening the count at 1-1 at halftime.
Grace McGettrick then tallied a pair of goals less than 12 minutes apart, giving the hosts a 3-1 advantage.
The Colonials rally began when Grey converted after a free kick, assisted by junior Bailey McCollum (Cold Spring, NY), cutting the gap to 3-2. The visitors continued to put the pressure on but were unable to knot the score up.
WestConn returns to action when they host cross-state rival Eastern Connecticut in yet another LEC tilt on Wednesday at 6 p.m.
