Box Score

DANBURY, CT - Freshman midfielder Bailey Julian (Simsbury, CT) scored a pair of first-half goals, the first two of her collegiate career, and the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team cruised to a 4-0 victory over visiting Manhattanville College at The WAC on Thursday afternoon.

Julian, a graduate of Northwest Catholic High School, gave the Colonials a 1-0 advantage when she finished off a crossing pass from sophomore Allison Oakley (Beekman, NY) in the 13th minute.

Junior Autumn Sorice (Bethel, CT) gave Western a 2-0 lead when she scored her fourth goal of the season at the 24:35 mark of the first stanza.

Sorice set up Julian with her second collegiate goal with a short pass in the box to the wide-open sophomore.

With 2:58 remaining before intermission, senior Stacey Weinberg (Port Washington, NY) tallied an unassisted goal.

Neither team threatened to notch a goal in the second half.

Jillian Fernandez (Columbia, CT) worked 60 minutes and did not have to make a save for the winners.  Serena Gunter (Jewitt City, CT) made one stop over the final 30 minutes in her first appearance of the season for Western.

Dolores Diemicke (North Massapequa, NY) registered seven saves for the Valiants before yielding to Gabriella Beltrami (Monroe, NY) for the final 13 minutes.  Beltrami made one save.

The Colonials, now 4-3-1, out-shot Manhattanville, 19-4 on the afternoon.

Western continues its four-game home stand on Saturday, September 24 when it plays host to University of Massachusetts Dartmouth at 1 pm.
