WestConn Women's Soccer Blanks Eastern Connecticut In LEC Semifinals

MANSFIELD, Conn. - Senior midfielder Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J.) had scored a goal and assisted on the other to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 2-0 win over the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in the semifinal round of the Little East Conference (LEC) Women's Soccer Championship Tournament this afternoon at Mansfield Outdoor Complex.  No. 4-seeded WestConn improves to 13-7-2 and will travel to either No. 2-seeded Keene State or No. 3-seeded Southern Maine on Saturday for their 10th LEC Finals appearance in a row.

WestConn was awarded a corner kick in the opening minute and scored on the first shot of the contest when sophomore forward Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) converted on Blacher's assist 1:13 into the game.  Neither team took a shot over the next six minutes before Blacher beat Warrior goalie Alex Ignatowicz on a penalty kick to give WestConn a 2-0 lead in the seventh minute.  WestConn junior goalie Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) made two saves and Igantowicz made one, as the teams combined for just three shots-on-goal the rest of the half.

The defenses were both stingy in the second half, which was played evenly with both teams taking six shots after intermission.  Regan had three saves to finish with five and improve to 12-6-2 with her league-leading seventh clean sheet of the season.  Ignatowicz and Kaedin Dublin combined for five stops for Eastern Connecticut.  Each team took 11 shots, but the Wolves doubled up the Warriors with six corner kicks to three.
