Box Score

NEWPORT NEWS, VA - Western Connecticut State University sophomore left fielder Michaela Roche belted a walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Colonials to a 3-2 victory over Rowan University at Captains Park on Sunday afternoon.

The Colonials, 1-2, captured its first victory of the season behind a solid pitching performance from sophomore righty Alle Sabith (Meriden, CT).  In a complete-game effort, Sabith allowed two runs on three hits while striking out three and walking three.

Western scattered four hits prior to the Roche's heroic hit.  Erin Biskup (Poughkeepsie, NY), Erin Weber (Rocky Hill, CT) Kylee Ruther (Stamford, CT) and Alexandra LaFemina (East Haddam, CT) each had a single for the winners.

After trailing 2-0 in the second inning, the Colonials scored a pair of runs to knot the game at 2-2.  LaFemina, who came on to run for Ruther after a single by the senior captain, stole second and came around to score on an error. Kylie Boyle had a ground-out RBI later in the frame to draw even with the Profs.
