MADISON, N.J. — With less than two minutes remaining in the first half,
Madison Preston (Brookfield, Conn.) netted the equalizer to force overtime, but the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team narrowly fell 2-1 on the road against FDU-Florham on Saturday. The Wolves dropped to 1-2, while the Devils moved to 1-1 on the season.
The home team opened the scoring at 7:07 with a goal by Katie Blair, but Preston knotted the game five minutes later for a 1-1 tie.
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.) brought the ball into scoring position and attempted a shot on goal, but Adrianna Goodwin made the stop in the cage. Preston recovered the denied shot and shoveled it past Goodwin for the seniors' first goal for the Wolves.
Mishel Kurt gave the hosts the one-goal win almost five minutes into overtime.

Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.) denied nine shots by the home team in regulation, while Goodwin stopped six.
