Brooklyn Testa (Danbury, Conn.) made a career-high 20 saves, but the Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten by the visiting Springfield College Pride, 3-1, in field hockey action this evening at Westside Stadium. WestConn falls to 3-3 with its first loss in three games and will host William Paterson next on Wednesday, September 16 at 4 p.m. Springfield improves to 3-1.
Testa made six saves and senior
Kaitlyn Biase (Nesconset, N.Y.) added a defensive save in the first quarter, but the Wolves ended the first 15 minutes with a 1-0 lead when Moulton rediected a pass from the left side by senior
Madison Preston (Brookfield, Conn.) past Springfield goalie Sam Orcutt with 3:10 left on the clock. Testa made four more stops early in the second quarter, but Springfield's Ava Coppola tied the game with a goal from Rachel Simkewicz at the 9:02 mark. Springfield finished the first half with a 17-to-2 shooting edge and had all 11 of the penalty corners in the first half.
Testa continued to be brilliant in the third quarter, turning away eight shots to keep the game knotted at 1-1. Simkewicz and Lily Bialack each broke through for Springfield in the fourth quarter, while the Wolves offense was held without a shot in the second half until late in the fourth when senior midfielder
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y.) had a shot blocked off a penalty corner and Preston fired the game's last shot wide in the final minute. Orcutt made one save to earn the win in the cage.
