KEENE, N.H. - Junior attack
Cody Suhr (Holbrook, N.Y.) tallied a game-high six goals while dishing out an assist to propel the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 13-11 victory at Keene State College in a Little East Conference battle on Tuesday night. Holding a slim 12-11 lead, senior midfielder
Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) iced the contest with his second goal of the evening with less than a minute remaining. Graduate student attack
Michael Zapatka (Newington, Conn.) chipped in with two goals and two assists.
Suhr netted his first goal of the game late in the first quarter to begin a five-goal run for the visitors and even the count at 3-3. He then rounded out the run with a pair of scoring strikes, both assisted by junior James Kreig (Port Jefferson, N.Y.). WestConn would hold a 7-3 lead at halftime.
However, the Owls retaliated with six of the next seven goals to seize a 9-8 advantage before Wolves' rookie
Lawson Leibrock (Fairfield, Conn.) took a feed from Suhr and tickled the twine, deadlocking the count at 9-9 heading into the fourth quarter. Suhr connected on his sixth marker with 5:03 left to play, giving WestConn a 12-10 lead. The hosts trimmed it to 12-11 with 2:00 remaining when Jack Ansart found the back of the net for his team-leading fourth goal of the game. But he coughed it up after Keene State won the ensuing faceoff. McMahon took advantage and put the game out of reach, cementing the fifth straight win for the Wolves.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 9-3 overall and 2-0 in LEC play, while the Owls dropped to 6-5 and 2-1. WestConn will look to keep it rolling when they head to Salem State University for another league matchup on Saturday at 1 p.m.
