SALEM, Mass. - Rookie attack
Thomas Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.) buried a game-high four goals to lift the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 15-10 victory at Salem State University in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon. Classmate
Cody Suhr (Holbrook, N.Y.) chipped in with a hat trick and one helper.
It was a furious first quarter as the teams combined for eight goals to finish deadlocked at 4-4. The Vikings put together a run to move ahead 7-4 in the second stanza before WestConn battled back with a spurt to even the count at 9-9 early in the third quarter when Keegan netted his third marker of the game. It marked the beginning of a big run for the Wolves. The Vikings would be held scoreless until finding the back of the net with under 30 seconds to go.
The Wolves rounded out the scoring when rookie midfielder
Chase Canfora (East Islip, N.Y.) tickled the twine. With the victory, WestConn improved to 11-3 overall and 4-0 in league play, while the Vikings dropped to 7-6 and 2-4.
WestConn returns to action when they host league nemesis Eastern Connecticut on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
