DANBURY, Conn. - Junior
Cody Suhr (Holbrook, N.Y.) had six goals and an assist to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 20-5 win over the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors in Little East Conference (LEC) men's lacrosse action at the Westside Athletic Complex this evening. WestConn wins its seventh game in a row and improves to 11-3 overall and 5-0 in the LEC. Eastern Connecticut drops to 4-4 overall and 2-3 in the league. The Wolves will host conference rival Southern Maine next on Saturday at 1 p.m.
WestConn never trailed, opening up a 4-0 lead 2:36 into the game and rattling off 11 goals in a row in a span of 32:55 that included part of all four quarters. Junior
Sam Rosa (Trumbull, Conn.) scored the first goal 1:14 after the opening faceoff, converting on the first of a career-high six assists by freshman attacker
Thomas Keegan (Lake Grove, N.Y.). After consecutive goals by the Warriors late in the first frame, Keegan fed senior attackman
Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) for the fifth Wolves goal with five seconds on the clock to initiate the 11-0 run. Suhr scored four of the eleven goals, while Keegan assisted on four of them and scored a fifth, Rosa and sophomore
Alex Burbank (Newtown, Conn.) each scored twice, and graduate
Michael Zapatka (Newington, Conn.) had assists on three of them.
Warren Channing scored his second goal for Eastern Conneticut to end the Warrior drought and make the score 15-13 with 12:10 left in the fourth quarter, but the Wolves' offense kept humming and the home team added a 5-0 run later in the fourth to make it a lopsided final tally. WestConn outshot Eastern Connecticut, 66-21, forced 26 turnovers while committing 13 and won 22 of 18 faceoffs. Freshman
Chase Canfora (East Islip, N.Y.) won 20 of his 26 tries at the dot for the Wolves, while senior
Charlie Guidera (Redding, Conn.) notched four ground balls and five caused turnovers. In goal, sophomore
Jake Kelly (Bethpage, N.Y.) made eight saves and Greg Hilinski had 15 stops for the Warriors.
