Muthersbaugh, Anderson Secure Wins in WestConn Baseball's Doubleheader Sweep of Albertus Magnus

DANBURY, Conn. — After pitching 6.2 innings, Jimmy Muthersbaugh (Bethel, Conn.) earned his first win this season on the mound in a 12-6 win over Albertus Magnus College, while Cooper Anderson (South Windsor, Conn.) completed the sweep for the Western Connecticut State University baseball team on Wednesday in a 5-3 win. Anderson pitched a scoreless 1.1 innings with three strikes for the win. Both games were scheduled for seven innings, but unexpected rain and lightning shortened the second game to six innings. The Wolves improved to 9-18 on the season, while the Falcons dropped to 11-19.

Nick Lobouno (Trumbull, Conn.) ignited the scoring for the hosts with a two-RBI home run out of right field in the first inning to put WestConn up 2-0. Across the next two frames, Albertus took a 3-2 lead, but a double by Lobouno to right field brought Thomas Keough (Plainville, Conn.) home to knot the game at three apiece.

In the bottom of the fourth, Ryan Vallie's (East Haven, Conn.) single to right center gave the home team a two-run edge as Elliot Kleinman (Nanuet, N.Y.) and Billy Untiet (Prospect, Conn.) scored. Vallie wound up back home after a throwing error by the center fielder allowed him to score off the overthrow for a 6-3 advantage in the fourth. WestConn padded their lead with six more runs in the fifth and sixth innings, ignited by another Vallie single and runs by Kleinman and Untiet.

Brayden Payne () came in as relief with the bags full of Falcons for strikeout and the final out of the game.

Albertus took a three-run lead in game two with two runs in the first and one in the fourth, but WestConn came back in the fourth to go up, 4-3. Robert Garcia's (Farmingville, N.Y.) groundout to shortstop allowed Lobouno to score and put the Wolves on the board in the bottom of the fourth. For the 3-3 tie, Anthony Marsala (Beacon Falls, Conn.) doubled to left center as Josef Rosa (Fort Lee, N.J.) and Mitch Landau (Northport, N.Y.) both scored. Justin Reo's (Plainview, N.Y.) RBI single down the right field line, allowing Marsala to score for the one-run edge, followed by the insurance run by Peter Coniglio (New Milford, Conn.) off Keough's RBI single to left field.

WestConn travels to non-conference opponent Manhattanville University on April 16 for a single game at 3:30 p.m.
