PURCHASE, N.Y. — In a non-conference contest, the Western Connecticut State University baseball team fell 16-5 on the road at Manhattanville University on Thursday. The Wolves dropped to 9-19, while the Valiants moved to 18-8 overall.
Manhattanville opened the first inning with a trio of runs, followed by a home run in the second to take a 4-0 lead.
Giani Chieffalo's (Danbury, Conn.) sacrifice fly allowed
Josef Rosa (Fort Lee, N.J.) to cross home and put the Wolves on the board in the third frame. The home team tacked on seven more runs through the third, fourth and fifth innings. WestConn scored five more runs in the sixth and seventh innings to narrow the gap to six, but Manhattanville padded four more runs to close out the game.
WestConn remains on the road for a Saturday doubleheader against Little East Conference opponent Vermont State University Castleton, with first pitch at noon.
