DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves trailed the visiting Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors, 5-3, after four innings but surrendered six runs in the fifth and eventually dropped a 13-3, seven-inning decision in Little East Conference (LEC) baseball action this afternoon at Westside Field. WestConn falls to 7-18 overall and 2-8 in the LEC, while the Warriors improve to 19-6-1 overall and 7-2 in the league. WestConn will be back in action tomorrow with a home doubleheader against Albertus Magnus at 4 p.m. Sophomore RF
Nick Lobuono (Trumbull, Conn.) was 2-for-2 with a run, a walk, and a double for the Wolves offense.
Eastern Connecticut led, 5-0, heading into the bottom of the fourth inning before WestConn chased Warrior starter Nicholas Furino with three three runs without an out in the bottom of the fourth. Lobuono and freshman 1B Giana Chieffalo (Danbury, Conn.) singled and senior
Josef Rosa (Fort Lee, N.J.) doubled home Lobuono for the Wolves' first run. WestConn junior 2B
Ryan Vallie (East Haven, Conn.) followed with a hard grounder that Eastern Connecticut's Teige Kimbler could not handle and scored Chieffalo and Rosa. WestConn junior C
Anthony Marsala (Beacon Falls, Conn.) walked to put the tying run on base, but Warrior right-hander Jake Soellner got a double play and a fly ball to end the threat and eventually record his first win.
Ian Moser led off the fifth inning with his second home run of the game, igniting a six-run inning for the Warriors. WestConn put two runners on base in the fifth and sixth frames and loaded the bases in the seventh but three different Eastern Connecticut pitchers kept the home tema off the board the rest of the way. The Warriors added two more runs in the seventh inning to end the game early. Freshman righty
Joe Fasano (Waterbury, Conn.) started and took the loss, falling to 0-3. Moser finished 3-f0or-4 at the plate with five RBIs.
