Mitch Landau (Northport, N.Y.) went 4-for-5 at the plate and scored his team's only run, as the Western Connecticut State University Wolves lost, 10-1, against the Colby-Sawyer College Chargers in Ripken Experience baseball action this afternoon. WestConn falls to 4-6 and has dropped five games in a row with its Little East Conference (LEC) opening doubleheader up next on Saturday at UMass Boston at noon. The Chargers improve to 4-7.
Landau opened the game with a single, advanced to second on a wild pitch, and eventually scored on a fielder's choice by freshman
Giani Chieffalo (Danbury, Conn.). WestConn held its lead behind two innings of scoreless pitching by junior
Brian Mansfield (Lynbrook, N.Y.) and sophomore
Quinn McGuire (Monroe, Conn.), but Colby-Sawyer touched junior
Jimmy Muthersbaugh (Bethel, Conn.) for four runs in the third frame. With the Wolves pitching by committee due its conference games this weekend, the Chargers scored once more in the fourth inning, four more times in the fifth, and once more in the sixth. Chieffalo finished with two hits for the Wolves offense.
