Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) registered a game-high six goals while junior middie
James Krieg (Port Jefferson, N.Y.) tallied five and one assist to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 15-9 victory over previously unbeaten Farmingdale State College in a non-conference matchup to wrap up the spring trip on Tuesday afternoon.
With the victory, the Wolves improved to 5-3 overall while the Rams dropped to 5-1. WestConn finished ahead in shots, 40-31, while winning the ground battle, 38-21. The Wolves also dominated the face-off X, 19-8.
Farmingdale State opened the game with two goals in less than three minutes before WestConn stormed back to seize a 4-2 advantage heading into the second stanza. Krieg utilized his one-on-one dodging ability to complete the hat trick during the first quarter flurry. McMahon took a feed from senior long stick midfielder
Charlie Guidera (Redding, Conn.) and scorched the back of the twine shortly before halftime, giving WestConn a 7-4 lead at the break. McMahon then opened the third with a pair of scoring strikes, extending the advantage to 9-4. The Rams would not recover as the Wolves cruised the rest of the way.
Sophomore netminder
Jake Kelly earned the win and turned aside 12 shots for WestConn, while junior goalie Connor Dobson (Islip, N.Y.) took the loss and notched a career-high 15 saves for Farmingdale State.
The Wolves head back north and return to action on Sunday at 1 p.m. when they host Massachusetts Maritime Academy in the Little East Conference opener for both squads.
