DANBURY, Conn. - Four players notched double figures in scoring as the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team cruised to a 103-65 victory over Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena. The Wolves forced 24 turnovers while coughing the ball up just five times en route to the win.
Sophomore center
Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) led the hosts with team-highs of 16 points and six rebounds. Junior guard
Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) added 15 points while dishing out a game-high six assists. Senior forward
Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.) and junior guard
Elijah Jean-Guillaume (New Haven, Conn.) chipped in with 14 and 10 points, respectively.Â
Seniors Ben Seiler (Enfield, N.H.) and Will Radcliff (Clifton Park, N.Y.) paced the Spartans with 20 points apiece. Seiler was red-hot from beyond-the-arc, knocking down six-of-nine attempts. Radcliff hauled in a game-high nine boards.
The Spartans jumped out to an early 17-8 advantage. Radcliff rounded out the run with a corner three-pointer. But WestConn quickly countered and seized control the rest of the way. They erupted with a 22-0 run midway through the first half to move ahead, 30-17. Rookie guard
Avery Taitt-Christina (Far Rockaway, N.Y.) wrapped up the barrage when he grabbed a Spartan miss off the glass and moved downcourt to finish with a layup. The Wolves would lead 50-32 at the break.
They would continue breezing to victory in the second half en route to the win. WestConn has now won 10 straight versus the Spartans and all 12 victories in the all-time series won by the Wolves have been in double digits. WestConn moved to 12-5 overall on the season and 5-3 in league play. Castleton dropped to 5-11 and 0-7. The Wolves return to action when they host Southern Maine in another Little East Conference matchup on Saturday at 3 p.m.
