DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University Wolves were beaten, 77-62, by the visiting Keene State College Owls in Little East Conference (LEC) women's basketball action this afternoon at Feldman Arena. WestConn drops to 5-10 overall and 1-6 in the LEC, while Keene State improves to 11-5 overall and 5-2 in the league. Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) paced WestConn offensively with 14 points.
Both offenses were clicking early, as Keene State jumped out to a 14-7 lead before a Macary layup and a trey by senior guard
Malaysia Dingle (Brockton, Mass.) made it a two-point game with 3:25 left before the first break. The teams traded free throws but Kiley Bundy hit a three-pointer for the Owls in the closing seconds to give the visitors a 19-14 lead. Keene State maintained its lead throughout the second frame. Niyama Adadevoh (Amherst, Mass.) went coast-to-coast to make the score, 34-33, in the Owls' favor. Ruby Dasaro scored right before halftime to push Keene State's lead back up to three.
WestConn sophomore guard
Cameron Froehlich (Brookfield, Conn.) drilled a trey at the 5:56 mark of the third quarter to make it, 47-42, but the Owls scored the next 11 points, six by Bundy, to go ahead by 16 points with 1:43 on the clock. Adadevoh scored back-to-back buckets to help the Wolves close to 61-47 heading into the final period. Barrie and fellow sophomore
Gianna Castellano (East Haven, Conn.) combined on the first five points of the fourth quarter to pull the Wolves to withing seven points at the 7:10 mark. Keene State scored 14 of the game's final 20 points to put the Wolves away.
Macary added 12 rebounds to her 14 points, while Barrie finished with 10 points and seven boards. WestConn outrebounded the Owls, 41-30, but committed 22 turnovers and missed seven of 15 free throws. Dingle scored nine points and senior guard
Francesca Foster (Mystic, Conn.) added six rebounds and four assists. Brynn Rautiola had 18 points, six assists, and five steals, Bundy had 17 points and five boards, and Dasaro added 14 points, seven rebounds, and five assists for the Owls.
