DANBURY, Conn. - Junior outside hitter
Julia Stoliker (Red Hook, N.Y.) notched match-highs of 16 kills and 16 digs to lift the Western Connecticut State University women's volleyball team to a 3-0 (25-13, 25-18, 25-13) thrashing over visiting non-conference opponent Mount Saint Mary College on Wednesday evening at Feldman Arena. Senior setter
Maggie Ferguson (Southbury, Conn.) chipped in with a match-high 33 assists.
The Wolves jumped out to a 15-4 lead in the opening frame when Stoliker pelted a shot to the floor off a feed from Ferguson. The Wolves earned the set courtesy of a Knights service error. The visitors put together what appeared to be a rally in the second set as they snagged an 8-2 advantage. However, the hosts stormed back with a surge of their own and would capture an 18-13 lead when the duo of Stoliker and Ferguson connected once again. Ferguson set up sophomore
Ava Grace Gardner (New York, N.Y.) for the winner.Â
The third frame was much like the opener. WestConn pulled ahead 9-4 when senior
Isabella Pincince (West Hartford, Conn.) notched an ace. Shortly thereafter, Gardner ripped a shot to the hardwood to wrap up the match, assisted by Ferguson.
With the victory, the Wolves improved to 10-3 overall while the Knights fell to 4-8. WestConn will look to continue its winning ways when they host a Little East Conference matchup with Vermont State University Castleton on Saturday at Noon.
