DANBURY, Conn. - Senior
Caleb Harris (Guilford, Conn.) and freshman
Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.) posted an 8-5 victory at third singles, but the Western Connecticut State University Wolves did not score another point and suffered an 8-1 loss against the visiting Rhode Island College Anchormen in Little East Conference (LEC) men's tennis action this afternoon at Westside Courts. WestConn falls to 5-9 overall and 2-3 in the league and will look to snap a three-match losing skid in its next match at home on Friday at 4 p.m. versus the Albertus Magnus College Falcons.
Rhode Island College took two of three doubles points, as WestConn's
Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) and
Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) fell short at the top of the ladder despite winning three games in a row to get back in the match from a 7-1 deficit. The Anchormen won at second doubles, 8-0. In singles, four out of the six matches started out competitive, but Rhode Island College won five of six in straight sets. Harris took his opponent at fourth singles to a tiebreaker but fell, 10-6,
"To say that we should have won this match would be unfair, Rhode Island is a strong team, said WestConn Head Coach Shawn Stillman. "The problem with singles was that for the most part we started out strong, but we were not able to sustain that."
