DANBURY, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University men's tennis team was edged by visiting Little East Conference foe UMass Boston, 5-4, on Saturday afternoon at Westside Courts. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 1-5 overall and 0-1 in league play. The Beacons improved to 2-2 and 1-0.
In doubles play, senior

Jose Zambrano (Danbury, Conn.) won easily at the No. 3 spot. At the top spot, junior
Aidan Burke (Wilton, Conn.) and graduate student
Kevin Tenesaca (Danbury, Conn.) came back from an early deficit and played to a tiebreaker, but unfortunately, they lost that 8-6. The match of the day was at No. 2 doubles as
Nicholas Peschier (Bridgeport, Conn.) and rookie
Henry Gsell (Bridgewater, Conn.) fought off three match points in the tiebreaker, and eventually won 12-10. WestConn had an early 2–1 lead.
And in singles action, Harris got the Wolves started off with a straight set victory. Araujo (No. 5) and Peschier (No. 3) then dropped their matches, knotting the score at 3-3. Tenesaca (No.1) then fell short at his match, and Zambrano (No. 6) won his match in straight sets, after coming back from a 1–4 deficit in the second set. At an overall score of 4–4, Burke (No. 2) lost his match, clinching the victory for UMass Boston.
"This match had a playoff feel today. Just about all the matches were close and could've gone either way. We have a young team, so this was good exposure for them. We were right there," said WestConn head coach Shawn Stillman following the contest.
The Wolves return to action when they host non-league opponent Springfield College on Monday at 3:30 p.m.
