DANBURY, Conn. - Graduate student midfielder
Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) propelled the Western Connecticut State University women's lacrosse squad to a season-opening 21-6 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Framingham State University on a frigid but sunny Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex. She finished the day with eight points on four goals and a game-high four assists. Junior attacker
Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) added a game-high seven goals and one assist while senior attacker
Savannah Kom (Danbury, Conn.) chipped in with four scoring strikes and a trio of helpers. Sophomore attacker
Isabella Pota (East Meadow, N.Y.) contributed a hat trick to go along with a game-high seven draw controls.
Senior attacker Leah Green (Chelmsford, Mass.) led the visitors with three goals and five draw controls, while three other players found the back of the net.
The Wolves got off to a fast start and would not look back. Ratchford canned the first two goals of the game before the Rams countered with a pair of their own. However, WestConn answered with a five-goal flurry to head into the second quarter with a 7-2 advantage. Gracy buried the career-marker when she scored her first goal of the contest during the barrage.
They would build it up to a 12-4 lead at halftime. Gracy rounded out the surge with her third and fourth goals of the afternoon. The Wolves continued to pour it on during the second half to earn running time en route to the win, upping their record to 1-0. The Rams moved to 0-1. The Wolves are now 6-0 all-time versus Framingham which includes 4-0 at the WAC. This day marked the largest margin of victory for WestConn. They last defeated the Rams in 2012 by a slim 8-5 gap.
Graduate student goalkeeper
Molly Bresnahan (Groton, Conn.) earned the victory for the Wolves and finished with nine saves, while junior goalie Bella DiMare (Wakefield, Mass.) took the loss for the Rams and recorded seven stops.
WestConn returns to action when they travel to Smith College for another non-league tilt on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
