DUDLEY, Mass. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves took their first loss of the season, 55-43, against the Nichols College Bison in women's basketball action this evening. Sara Macary (Naugatuck, Conn.) combined for nine points to give WestConn a 13-12 lead after one quarter. Nichols went on an 8-0 run late in the second frame and led, 30-29, at the break. Barrie scored the first four points of the third quarter to vault the Wolves to their own 8-0 run and a 37-30 lead with 6:42 left before the last break, but the Bison closed the third frame with an 8-2 run to lead, 45-41. Nichols outscored WestConn, 10-2, in the fourth quarter to secure the win.
Macary joined Barrie in double figures in scoring for the Wolves, scoring 13 points to go with seven rebounds. Senior
Leana Heitmann (East Syracuse, N.Y.) collected six points, a game-high 16 rebounds and five blocked shots for WestConn. Nichols' Alyvia Smith led all scorers with 22 points, Ariana Romano added 15 points, 10 steals, and four assists. The Bison shot just 27 percent from the flloor but forced 31 turnovers. WestConn made one three-pointer in 19 tries, while outrebounding Nichols, 53-43.
