DANBURY, Conn. — Four Wolves struck gold in the Western Connecticut State University's 4-1 victory in Little East Conference (LEC) action against the visiting UMass Boston Beacons at the Westside Stadium on Saturday. WestConn improved to 8-4-1 on the season and 3-1-0 in the league, while the visitors dropped to 4-5-2 and 0-2-1.
Abigail Corcoran (Newington, Conn.) netted the first goal for the hosts off the slick feed from
Tessa Kovarczi (Shelton, Conn.) just under four and a half minutes of action. Before halftime, the Wolves connected for their second goal of the game after a long pass by
Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J. ) to
Noelle Haase (Beacon, N.Y.) on the right side of the cage in the 33rd minute.
After drawing a foul just past midfield,
Shannon Anderson (New Milford, Conn.) was awarded a free kick opportunity that sailed over the top of the goalkeeper at the 50-minute mark to put the Wolves up, 3-0. Seven minutes later, Blacher aided in yet another goal for the home team following a quick pass as
Sophia Onek (Lake Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) darted towards the net for WestConn's fourth goal.
In the 83rd minute, Alexis Williamson put the Beacons on the board with a high and right shot into the twine.
Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J.) made nine stops in net for the Wolves, while Leah Skorodumova and Amanda Regan split time in the goal for UMass and combined for three saves. The Beacons outshot the Wolves 18-11 and had a 6-3 corner kick edge.
