WestConn Men's Soccer Extends Unbeaten Streak To Seven With Victory At UMass Boston

BOSTON, Mass. - The visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves handed the University of Massachusetts Boston Beacons a 2-1 loss in Little East Conference (LEC) men's soccer action this afternoon   WestConn improve to 7-4-2 overall and stays perfect in the LEC at 4-0, while the Beacons drop to 5-3-3 overall and 1-1-1 in the league.  The Wolves are 6-0 in their last seven games and have won five times in a row.  WestConn visits Kean next on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m.

The Beacons took five of the game's first six shots, forcing freshman goalkeeper Makai Smith (Bridgeport, Conn.) to save one of them, but the Wolves took a 1-0 lead when sophomore Juan Gomez Herrera (Brentwood, N.Y.) scored from sophomore Manny Catarino (Danbury, Conn.) in the 41st minute.  WestConn junior midfielder Jeffrey Norales (Bronx, N.Y.) made UMass Boston goalie Nolan McKenna make his first save less than two minutes later, as the visitors went into halftime with a 1-0 lead.

Senior forward Maximus Vigo (Canton, Mich.) gave the Wolves a 2-0 cushion in the 72nd minute with an unassisted goal, but Cam Ramos scored for the Beacons moments later.  Gustavo De Paula nearly tied it in the final two minutes but his bid was stopped from crossing the line by a WestConn defender.  Smith finished with two saves and McKenna had three.  UMass Boston outshot WestConn, 12-8, and the Wolves had five corner kicks to two for the Beacons.
