CASTLETON, Vt. —
Kaitlyn Biase (Nesconset, N.Y.) recorded her 11th career defensive save but the Western Connecticut State University fell 5-0 to Little East Conference (LEC) rival Vermont State University Castleton at Dave Wolk Stadium on Saturday. The Wolves moved to 4-6 on the season and 1-1 in the league, the Spartans improved to 5-5 and 1-0.
After being up 2-0 in the second quarter, Biase recorded a defensive save at 24:54. She denied another shot for her second defensive save at 31:39 She is fourth overall in program history with 11 and has seven this season.
Jess Smithson put the hosts on the board first at 1:24 in the first quarter off back-to-back penalty corners for Castleton. The Spartans connected for four more goals in the second and third periods.
Vermont outshot the Wolves 13-6 and had an 11-5 penalty corner edge.
Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.) had a trio of saves in the cage for the Wolves, while Zoe Martin made four stops for Castleton.
The Wolves host Albertus Magnus College on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. match. up at the Westside Stadium.
