WAYNE, N.J. - Three different players found the back of the net to propel the Western Connecticut State University field hockey squad to a 3-2 victory at William Paterson University in a non-conference contest on Saturday. Juniors
Alyssa Montalvo (Holbrook, N.Y) and
Cassidy Nordmann (Bethel, Conn.) combined with sophomore
Andrea Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) to connect with the twine for the Wolves in a furious fourth quarter frenzy.
The game remained scoreless until late in the third quarter when Ali Stoner dribbled past a pair of defenders and canned her eighth goal of the season to give the hosts a 1-0 lead. The visitors retaliated with a pair of goals early in the final stanza to snag a 2-1 advantage. Nordmann got things started with her fourth goal of the campaign before Moulton took a cross feed from
Reagan Schoen and tapped in her second marker of the year. Shortly thereafter, the Pioneers answered to even the count at 2-2. However, the Wolves struck right back less than two minutes later during the final minute of regulation. Montalvo gathered a pass from sophomore
Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) and connected on the game-winner for the Wolves.
WestConn finished ahead in shots, 18-7, while also holding a commanding lead in penalty corners, 9-2. With the victory, the Wolves improved to 6-7 overall while William Paterson dropped to 2-11. WestConn returns to action at Little East Conference archrival Eastern Connecticut for a battle on Tuesday at 4 p.m.
