PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team suffered a 90-40 loss at Rhode Island College in a Little East Conference matchup on Tuesday evening at the Murray Center. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 4-11 overall and 2-4 in league play, while the Anchorwomen improved to 10-5 and 5-1.
Rookie forward
Fatmata Barrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) just fell shy of a double-double to lead the visitors with nine points and nine rebounds.
Four players notched double figures in scoring to guide the hosts. Meagan Schuermann led the way with a game-high 21 points, while Madison Medbury added a double-double with 15 points and a game-high 11 rebounds.
The hosts led from the start and wouldn't look back as they held WestConn to just 28 percent shooting from the floor. The Anchorwomen would hold a 25-6 lead to conclude the first quarter. The Wolves would not recover from the hot start.
WestConn will look to snap its losing streak when they travel to Keene State College on Thursday for yet another LEC tilt.
