SOUTH HADLEY, Mass. - Despite outshooting the hosts 21-17, the Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team was edged at non-conference opponent Mount Holyoke College, 1-0, on Wednesday evening at MHC Soccer Field.
Ada Siepmann tallied the lone goal of the game for the hosts in the 56th minute of play as they improved to 2-0 overall. With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 1-1-1.
WestConn rookie goalkeeper
Ashlyn Flood (Stamford, Conn.) finished with five saves, while Evie Krieg notched seven en route to the victory for Mount Holyoke.
The Lyons opened the contest with a flurry of shots but Flood stood strong to keep them off the board. The Wolves picked things up in the second half as they held a 15-7 advantage in shots. However, Siepmann was able to find the back of the net for her first goal of the season for the game-winner. Mount Holyoke nearly added an insurance goal off a header in the 77th minute but it bounced off the post. The Wolves put together a pair of shots late but Kreig came up with a stop before another went just wide of the net.
WestConn will look to rebound when they meet the United States Merchant Marine Academy at the WAC on Friday at 7 p.m.
