Field Hockey Downed at Drew

MADISON, N.J. - The Western Connecticut State University field hockey team was downed at non-conference opponent Drew University, 3-0, on Wednesday evening at Ranger Stadium.

With the loss, the Wolves fell to 4-5 overall while the hosts improved to 6-3. Drew controlled the tempo as they outshot the visitors, 18-2.

The Rangers took the lead less than five minutes into the contest when Tyler Olivio buried a shot into the back of the net from the right side. They would hold the 1-0 lead at halftime.

Drew extended the advantage to 2-0 in the third when Janelle Arch gathered a rebound and scored. The Rangers upped it to 3-0 in the fourth when Chandler Straub took a feed from Arch and scurried past WestConn defenders down low to round out the scoring.

Wolves rookie netminder Jaden Kilmer (East Islip, N.Y.) kept the score close as she managed to smother 11 shots.

WestConn will look to rebound when they head to UMass Dartmouth for their Little East Conference opener on Saturday at 4 p.m.
