Moulton's Game Winner Propels Field Hockey to Win at UMass-Dartmouth

DARTMOUTH, Mass. - Rookie midfielder Andrea Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) buried the game-winning goal in overtime to propel the Western Connecticut State University field hockey squad to a thrilling 2-1 victory at UMass-Dartmouth to open Little East Conference play on Saturday afternoon.

With the win, the Wolves improved to 5-5 overall and 1-0 in league play, while the Corsairs sank to 3-8 and 0-2.

After a scoreless opening quarter, the visitors faced an early challenge when the hosts took the lead in the second quarter.

Despite the setback, WestConn continued to press forward, creating scoring opportunities throughout the contest. The breakthrough came in the fourth quarter when junior forward Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) carried the ball into the circle and fired a shot past the UMass-Dartmouth goalkeeper, knotting the count at 1-1 with just over seven minutes remaining.

As the match moved into overtime, WestConn seized the initiative. Moulton capitalized on a loose ball after her initial shot was stopped, sealing the victory with the game-winner.

Schoen had a standout performance, finishing with eight shots, four of which were on goal while scoring one goal for the Wolves. Moulton added two shots on goal, including the decisive tally, while WestConn rookie netminder Grace Bomboy(Bainbridge, N.Y.) recorded seven saves to secure the win.

The Wolves will look to build on this momentum when they return to square off against Westfield State University in a non-conference tilt at the Westside Athletic Complex on Thursday at 6 p.m.
