DANBURY, Conn. - Despite a stellar performance with 24 saves from rookie goalkeeper
Gracie Bomboy (Bainbridge, NY), the Western Connecticut State University field hockey team fell to visiting non-conference foe Marywood University, 4-1, on Saturday afternoon at the Westside Athletic Complex.
Junior forward
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) notched the lone goal of the contest for the hosts when she fired a shot that redirected off a defender into the top corner of the cage. It marked her team-leading 11th tally of the season early in the second quarter, shrinking the Pacers' lead to 2-1.
However, they would not get any closer as the visitors found the back of the net in the third before adding another in the fourth to round it out at 4-1. Graduate student forward Cydney Lahr (Herndon, Pa.) led the Pacers with two goals and an assist, while senior forward Lany Straub (Shickshinny, Pa.) chipped in with a pair of scoring strikes.
With the loss, the Wolves dropped to 4-4 overall, while the Pacers improved to 3-4. WestConn returns to action yet another non-league battle when they travel to Drew University on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
