Jaelyn Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) scored one goal and assisted junior forward
Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) on the game-winner in overtime to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 2-1 victory over the Wilkes University Colonels in field hockey action this afternoon at Schmidt Stadium. WestConn was outshot, 25-8, and had four penalty corners to 17 for the Colonels but the Wolves even their season mark at 3-3 and Wilkes drops to 1-4 with its fourth loss in a row. The Wolves will host William Paterson next on Wednesday at 4 p.m.
WestConn took a 1-0 lead on Moulton's goal on the Wolves' only shot-on-goal of the first half with an assist provided by junior forward
Miah Ruiz (New Fairfield, Conn.) with 3:58 left before the first break. WestConn rookie goalkeeper
Gracie Bomboy (Bainbridge, N.Y.) kept Wilkes off the board in the first frame with three of her nine saves. Wilkes took the only shot-on-goal of the second quarter, which was saved by Bomboy to keep the score a 1-0 at halftime.
The Wolves offense came alive early in the third period, as Wilkes goalie Olivia Wickel had two make three saves in the opening 1:15 with an initial shot off a penalty corner by Ruiz and two more back-to-back by junior teammate
Alyssa Montalvo (Farmingville, N.Y.). Bomboy returned the favor with two saves later in the third and three more in the fourth before the Colonels on a goal by Allysa Pardue with 3:45 remaining in regulation. Schoen hit the post with a shot moments later and Wickel made a late stop against WestConn sophomore
Kylie Dishaw (Old Lyme, Conn.) to keep the game tied after four quarters. Two Wilkes shots in the extra frame sailed wide before Schoen found the back of the cage from Moulton with 5:16 on the clock.
