WEST HARTFORD, Conn. - Junior Reagan Schoen (Newtown, Conn.) had a hat trick to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 4-2 victory over the University of St. Joseph Blue Jays in the field hockey season opener for both teams this afternoon.  Fellow junior Miah Ruiz (New Fairfield, Conn.) also scored, while freshman goalkeeper Jaden KIlmer (East Islip, N.Y.) posted her first career win with six saves for the Wolves.  WestConn will visit Elms next on Sunday at 11 a.m.

WestConn scored in every quarter, beginning with Ruiz' goal with just under four minutes left before the first break.  Sophomore Alyssa Montalvo (Farmingville, N.Y.) assisted Schoen on a penalty corner to give the Wolves a 2-0 lead with 3:38 remaining before halftime, and the pair connected again off a corner to give the visitors a 3-0 lead at the 9:30 mark of the third quarter.  Grace Kocisewski scored the first Blue Jay goal of the fall moments later but Schoen pushed WestConn's lead back up to three early in the fourth frame with her third tally of the game. Kocisewski fed Kaitlin Trudeau late for St. Joseph to make the final score, 4-2.  Jaci Felix-Hull had seven saves for the Blue Jays, who were outshot, 16-11, but had a slight advantage with eight penalty corners to seven for the Wolves.
