Newburgh, N.Y. - Freshman 2B
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) went 4-for-4 with two runs, two doubles, and an RBI to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 6-2 victory over the Mount St. Mary College Knights in softball action this afternoon. WestConn, which lost game two, 2-0, is now 15-21, while the Knights move to 14-19. The Wolves will return to the diamond on Friday when they host Little East Conference (LEC) rival Southern Maine on Friday for a 2 p.m. doubleheader. Freshman Lindsay Farinacchio (Red Hook, N.Y.) allowed two hits and two unearned runs with no walks over five innings in the opener to improve to 7-9 in the circle for WestConn.
Allen doubled early in the first inning, while junior OF
Brianna Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) followed with a two-run single and sophomore 3B
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) delivered an RBI single to give WestConn a 3-0 lead after the first. Allen doubled in sophomore
Amber Roggendorf (Great Neck, N.Y.) in the fourth frame and the score remained the same until the seventh inning when senior
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) scored on a double steal and Malvino knocked home Allen with an RBI double. Farinacchio was fantastic, giving up just two singles as the Knights two runs in the third came as the result of an error in the Wolves outfield. Fellow rookie hurler Caitlin Conley (Ridgefield, Conn.) pitched out of trouble in the sixth and threw a perfect seventh inning for WestConn. Six WestConn pitchers held the Knights to four hits and one earned run but walked six and struck out none. Dana Donnelly pitched a six-hit shutout for Mount St. Mary. Allen had another double for the Wolves offense. WestConn had runners reach second base in three innings and Ushka singled and reached third on Allen's double in the sixth but failed to score.
