DANBURY, Conn. - Freshman RHP Lindsay Farinacchio (Red Hook, N.Y.) pitched a complete game with two strikeouts to lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 2-1 victory over the visiting University of Southern Maine Huskies in Little East Conference (LEC) softball action this afternoon on Westside Field. WestConn, which was barely edged, 5-4, in the first game of today's doubleheader, finishes the regular season with a 16-22 record and a 7-9 mark in the Little East. Southern Maine, ranked No. 3 in the region, ends its regular campaign at 25-11 overall and 9-7 in the league. The Huskies will compete in the LEC Championship Tournament next week and the Wolves will do the same if Rhode Island College wins one of its two games against Castleton tomorrow in Vermont.

Southern Maine loaded the bases with none out in the seventh, but Farinacchio finished strong with three outs in a row including one on a strikeout and upped her season mark to 8-9. Southern Maine had taken a 3-0 lead in the opener, as Madi Day doubled home two runs in the first and scored twice in the first five innings. In the bottom of the fifth inning, Chenoweth started a two-out rally with a walk. Ushka followed with a single and the pair executed a double steal to put both in scoring position. Wolves freshman 2B
Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) delivered a two-run single up the middle to make the score, 3-2. The Huskies scored three times in the seventh but the Wolves rallied again and scored twice in their last at-bats on a Cordova walk and a homer to left field by Ushka. Lexus McIntosh recorded her third save, however, when she retired Allen for the last out on a hard ground ball. Chenoweth pitched into the seventh and fell to 4-8 and Southern Maine's Belle Snyder improved to 8-4.
