WestConn Women's Lacrosse Closes Regular Season With Win At RIC

Box Score PROVIDENCE, R.I. - Sophomore Madison Ratchford (Ridge, N.Y.) had five goals and an assist to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 20-2 victory over the Rhode Island College Anchorwomen in the Little East Conference (LEC) regular season finale for both teams this afternoon at Alumni Stadium.  WestConn concludes the 2024 regular season with  seven wins in a row, a 12-5 overall record and completes a perfect campaign in the LEC at 7-0.  The Wolves will be the top seed in the Little East Championship Tournament, hosting the semifinal round on Thursday, May 2 at 3 p.m. against either Plymouth State or Southern Maine.  Rhode Island College ends the year at 2-13 overall and 0-7 in the conference.

Ratchford scored the game's first goal from freshman Anneliese Reggio (White Plains, N.Y.) 5:22 into the first quarter, as the Wolves built a 6-1 lead at the first break.  From the second quarter into the fourth, WestConn scored 12 goals in a row to lead, 18-1, with 10:35 left in the game.  WestConn outshot Rhode Island College, 39-11, forced 25 turnovers while committing eight and won 15 of the 24 draws.  Senior Vicky Gracy (Bethel, Conn.) also scored five goals for WestConn, while sophomore Faye Junge (Centerport, N.Y.) had a goal and three assists, junior Savannah Kom (Danbury, Conn.) scored three times, and Reggio notched three assists.  Kom also scooped four ground balls, and Junge collected two ground ball, two caused turnovers, and three draw controls.  Molly Bresnahan (Noank, Conn.) had three saves for the Wolves and Anchorwomen goalie Giana Franco had eight saves and six ground balls.
