WILLIMANTIC, Conn. - The Western Connecticut State University softball team split a doubleheader at Little East Conference rival Eastern Connecticut on Tuesday afternoon. The Wolves dropped the opener, 7-0, before rallying to win the second contest, 5-1.
It was all Warriors in Game One as they tallied four runs in the second frame. They would cruise the rest of the way.
However, the Wolves retaliated to seize Game Two, 5-1. Sophomore
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) gave WestConn an early surge when she smashed a single to center field, scoring a pair of runners, giving the Wolves an early 3-0 lead.
The Warriors sliced it to 3-1 before WestConn countered with a two-run homer in the fifth. Junior
Brianna Malvino (Glen Cove, N.Y.) ripped a shot over the wall, giving the Wolves the insurance runs they needed to come away with the split.
WestConn moved to 13-17 overall while the Warriors went to 14-13-1. The Wolves return to action when they host a doubleheader against Manhattaville on Thursday.
