KEENE, N.H. - Sophomore midfielder
Tristan McMahon (Farmingville, N.Y.) and junior attacker
Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) each netted four goals while graduate student midfielder
Tyler Starrett (Redding, Conn.) added a hat trick to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse team to a 13-12 victory at Little East Conference foe Keene State College on Tuesday evening.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 11-4 overall and 6-1 in league play, while the Owls fell to 6-6 and 5-1.
The visitors jumped out to an early 2-0 lead on a pair of twine ticklers from Starrett. They made it 4-2 early in the second quarter when he completed the trifecta.Â
However, the hosts countered to even things up at 4-4 before snagging a 6-4 advantage when Jeff Weidenfeld connected on a man-up tally. McMahon answered with a man-up score of his own before Duque found the back of the net with 18 seconds remaining before halftime to make it 6-6.
The lead changed hands several times in the second half before WestConn leaped ahead, 13-10, when graduate student middie
Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.) fired a shot just inside the post with 7:73 left in the fourth. The Owls shrank it to 13-12 with just 2:27 remaining. But they couldn't convert the equalizer as the Wolves escaped with the win.Â
WestConn returns to action when they host an LEC regular season finale matchup against Southern Maine on Friday at 5 p.m. The LEC Tournament is slated to begin Tuesday.
