DANBURY, Conn. - Junior attackman
Julian Duque (Mastic, N.Y.) fired home a game-high six goals to go along with one assist as the Western Connecticut State University men's lacrosse squad rolled to a 19-4 victory over visiting non-conference opponent Russell Sage College on a rain-soaked Wednesday evening at the Westside Athletic Complex.
With the win, the Wolves improved to 3-1 overall while the Gators sank to 0-6.Â
Other key contributors for the hosts included senior
Joseph Boss (Holbrook, N.Y.) who netted a hat trick, while classmate
Nate Caldwell (Cranford, N.J.) and graduate student faceoff specialist
Jonathan Russack-Baker (Groton, Conn.) each finished with a pair of goals. Russack-Baker also won 14-of-19 draws and scooped up a game-high 11 ground balls.
WestConn opened the contest with a nine-goal first quarter barrage. Caldwell netted his first goal of the campaign to get things started before Boss wrapped up the run with a pair of tallies on feeds from rookie
Sam Rosa (Trumbull, Conn.) and graduate student
Benjamin Hawthorne (Manorville, N.Y.).Â
The Wolves picked up right where they left off in the second stanza. A three-goal burst capped with rookie attackman
Cody Suhr's (Holbrook, N.Y.) man-up goal, stretched the lead to 12-2. It was more of the same in the second half as WestConn accounted for seven of the eight goals scored.
Senior goalie
Brendan Grove (Cheshire, Conn.) picked up the win for the hosts and stopped three shots. The Wolves return to action on Saturday at 1 p.m. when they host non-league foe Misericordia University.
