FARMINGDALE, N.Y. - Sophomore
Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) smashed three hits and three RBI's but the Western Connecticut State University softball team dropped both games of a doubleheader at non-league foe Farmingdale State College on Monday afternoon. The Wolves were edged in the opener, 4-2, before falling in the nightcap, 8-4.
The visitors fell behind 3-0 early in Game One. The Rams tallied the first run of the game courtesy of a wild pitch in the first frame. They pushed another pair of runners across the plate in the third. WestConn responded in the top of the fourth when Resto belted a single up the middle. Shortly thereafter, rookie pinch runner
Deanna Reimo (Holtsville, N.Y.) scored off a fielder's choice, shrinking the margin to 3-1. The Wolves cut it to 3-2 in the sixth when rookie
Lindsay Farinaccio (Red Hook, N.Y.) roped another single, scoring Resto, who doubled to left center early in the inning. The Rams retaliated with an insurance run in the bottom half of the frame. The visitors got the tying run to second base in the top of the seventh but couldn't push her home as a groundout concluded the contest.
WestConn jumped on the board in the top of the first to start Game Two. Resto ripped a shot thru the left side of the infield to drive in a pair of runners, giving the visitors and early 2-0 advantage. Farmingdale countered to even the count at 2-2 in the third. The first runner scored unearned before a bunt down the third base line forced home another run to deadlock it. The Wolves regained the two-run lead in the fourth when senior infielder
Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) scurried across the plate after being hit by a pitch. Moments later, Resto smashed an RBI sacrifice fly to make it 4-2. However, it was all Farmingdale from there as the hosts answered with a trio of runs in the fourth and another three in the sixth to round the count out at 8-4.
With the pair of losses, the Wolves dropped to 7-9 overall while the Rams improved to 8-6. WestConn will look to snap its three-game skid when they travel to Rhode Island College for a Little East Conference opening twin bill on Saturday beginning at 1 p.m.
