NAPLES, Fla. - Freshman Caitlin Conley (Ridgefield, Conn.) pitched a complete game with three strikeouts to collect her first career win and lead the Western Connecticut State University Wolves to an 8-3 victory over the Rochester Institute of Technology Tigers in Gene Cusic Softball Classic action this afternoon at North Collier Complex.  WestConn, which also dropped a 6-4 decision earlier today against the Alfred State College Pioneers, 6-4, are 3-3.  RIT is now 1-1 and Alfred State is 2-1.  The Wolves, which have played six games in three days to open the campaign, will take a day off before facing Eureka on Wednesday at 9 a.m. and Coe immediatelt following at 11 a.m.

Trailing, 1-0, after RIT scored an unearned run in the top of the second inning, WestConn erupted for six runs in the bottom the second and never looked back.  Freshman Kendall Allen (Naugatuck, Conn.) delivered a two-out, RBi single and later scored on a two-run double by fellow rookie Mackenzie Moccia (Yonkers, N.Y.) to highlight the second frame for the Wolves offense.  WestConn freshman Lindsay Farinaccio (Red Hook, N.Y.) added a run-scoring single with two outs in the third inning and sophomore Alexis Resto (Shelton, Conn.) doubled and scored the final Wolves run in the sixth inning.  Conley allowed seven hits and one earned run.

Against Alfred State, WestConn took a 2-0 lead thanks to consecutive RBI doubles by senior Rachael Ushka (Southbury, Conn.) and junior Amber Roggendorf (Great Neck, N.Y.) in the second inning.  The Pioneers cut their deficit in half with a run in the second inning, but WestConn scored twice more in the fourth frame on another run-scoring double by Roggendorf and an RBI single by junior Carly Cordova (East Haven, Conn.).  Alfred scored five runs in the fifth inning to take a 6-4 lead, highlighted by a three-run triple from Audrey Farrell.  The Wolves had runners on second and third with one out in the seventh inning but Pioner hurler Hallee Smith got out of the jam to finish a complete game.  Roggendorf and Ushka combined to go 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBIs, while freshman starter Brianne McKay (Riverhead, N.Y.) struck out four over the first three innings.  Wolves rookie reliever Melanie Fiumara (New Windsor, N.Y.) took the loss in her first collegiate appearance.
