DANBURY, Conn. - Seven Wolves reached double figures in scoring as the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team raced past visiting Little East Conference foe UMass Dartmouth, 103-82, to conclude the regular season slate at Feldman Arena on Saturday afternoon. The Wolves earned a first round bye in the upcoming LEC Postseason Championship Tournament. They will host an LEC semifinal matchup on Thursday at 6 p.m. against the winner of the quarterfinal contest on Tuesday between UMass Boston and UMass Dartmouth.
Graduate student guard Alfonso Stokes (Bloomfield, Conn.) paced the Wolves with 19 points, while junior forward
Cameron Gallon (York, Pa.) and classmate guard
Jeremiah Williams (Brooklyn, N.Y.) tacked on 15 and 14, respectively. Graduate student forward
Jaheim Young (Brooklyn, N.Y.) added 13, while three other reserves also netted double figures.
The hosts shot a blistering 54 percent from the field, while holding the visitors to a 40 percent clip. They also forced 27 turnovers which led to 29 points. The winners committed just 16.
The Wolves led wire-to-wire, jumping out to an early 12-4 lead when Young earned a steal and cruised downcourt for a thunderous dunk. The lead ballooned to 21 points when Williams converted a layup just before halftime.
WestConn widened the margin to 34 early in the second stanza when Young tallied another basket off the glass. The Wolves would cruise the rest of the way.
With the victory, WestConn improved to 21-4 overall and 14-2 in league play, while UMass Dartmouth fell to 14-11 and 11-5.
