ONEONTA, N.Y. - Senior forward Alyssa Virtue (Groton, Conn.) tallied team-highs for the Western Connecticut State University's women's basketball team during their first game of the season against SUNY Oneonta. However, the Wolves fell short, 58-45, suffering their first loss of the season on Saturday night.
Virtue tallied 16 points, followed closely by freshman forward Nia Rencher (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) with 12. Freshman guard Skylar Miller (Trumbull, Conn.) had three rebounds with teammates Virtue and Rencher leading the way with four. WestConn committed a fair number of turnovers, 16, but overpowered Oneonta drawing 21.
The Wolves and the Red Dragons were on an equal playing field with 7-7 steals, Virtue with two of her own. Both were neck and neck in three-point-shots, the Wolves 4-15, and the Red Dragons 4-14. The Wolves are set to take to the court next on November 13, at 6 P.M., at the William A. O'Neill Center against University of Mount Saint Vincent.
