DANBURY, Conn. - Rookie forward
Marcel Henry (Yonkers, N.Y.) came off the bench and recorded game-highs of 18 points and seven rebounds to guide the Western Connecticut State University men's basketball team to an 82-49 victory over visiting non-conference foe Elms College on Sunday afternoon at Feldman Arena. The Wolves are now 7-0 all-time against the Blazers. The closest affair came back in the 2017-18 campaign when WestConn won by 10.
Senior forward
Jourdan Belcher (Elmsford, N.Y.) joined Henry in double figures with 13 points on a red-hot 6-of-8 shooting from the floor. The hosts moved the ball well as junior forward
Nick Boyce (Jamaica, N.Y.) and classmate guard
Tayejon Lynch (Cambria Heights, N.Y.) each dished out five assists.
Senior guard Kishaun Cole (Sleepy Hollow, N.Y.) led the Blazers with 14 points while junior forward RJ Mayfield (Springfield, Mass.) contributed eight and five boards.
The WestConn bench outscored the Elms reserves, 48-14. The Wolves also netted 75 percent (18-of-24) from the charity stripe while the Blazers connected on just 5-of-9 attempts.
The visitors kept it close in the opening seven minutes of play, trailing just 11-8, before the hosts put together a barrage to widen the gap to 30-14 when Henry slammed home a dunk off a feed from junior guard
Jahlyl Morgan (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.). The Wolves would stretch it to a 20-point advantage later in the half.
WestConn continued the flurry in the second stanza and Elms would not put together any sort of rally. The cushion expanded to as many as 33 before the count rounded out at 82-49.
With the win, the Wolves evened their record at 3-3 overall, while the Blazers dropped to 0-6. WestConn returns to action when they host the City College of New York in yet another non-league matchup on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
