DANBURY, Conn. - First-year head coach Maria Conlon pierced the win column as the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball squad cruised to an 89-34 victory over visiting York College (N.Y.) on Saturday afternoon at Feldman Arena. Rookies Nia Rencher (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.) and Fatmata Barrie (Staten Island, N.Y.) each notched double-doubles to propel the Wolves to the win. 

Rencher notched a game-high 16 points, while Barrie hauled down a game-high 15 rebounds. WestConn opened the contest with a blistering 26-7 run to conclude the opening quarter. They would not look back the rest of the way.

After taking a 44-18 lead into the locker room at halftime, WestConn continued to pour it on in the second half. Rookie guard Andrea Moulton (Stafford Springs, Conn.) canned a game-high four three-pointers en route to a 12-point performance while classmate Xiomara Soto (Danbury, Conn.) dished out five assists.

The hosts held the visitors to just 21 percent shooting from the floor while connecting on 45 percent of their own shots. With the victory, the Wolves improved to 1-2 overall while the Cardinals fell to 0-1. WestConn returns to the hardwood when they host non-league foe Nichols College on Thursday at 6 p.m.
