John Giller (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) completed 21 of 24 passes for 328 yards and two touchdowns, including eight to classmate
Julian Ferguson (Enfield, Conn.) for 188 yards and one score, and also ran for two touchdowns to lead the visiting Western Connecticut State University Wolves to a 48-21 win over the Plymouth State University Panthers in Massachusetts State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC) football action this afternoon at Panther Field. WestConn improves to 4-1 overall and 4-0 in the league with their fourth victory in a row and will be off until hosting conference rival Bridgewater State on Saturday, October 19 at 5 p.m. as part of Homecoming Weekend. Plymouth State falls to 1-3 overall and in the league.
WestConn trailed 14-7, early in the second quarter but rattled off four unanswered touchdowns to lead, 35-14, with 12:14 left in the fourth quarter. The Wolves tied the game at 14-all by going 80 yard on 16 plays on a drive to took eight minutes. Giller completed six of seven passes on that possession, including 13-yard pass on 4th-and-4 to keep the drive alive and bring the ball up to the Panther seven-yard line, and completed the drive with a three-yard touchdown run with 6:13 left in the first half. The WestConn defense forced a quick punt and the visitors went into halftime with a 21-14 lead thanks to an 18-yard scoring strike from Giller to Allen inside the final minute of the second quarter.

Tyon Grimes (Hempstead, N.Y.) broke up a fourth-down pass to force Plymouth State to turn the ball over on downs in the Wolves end and Giller connected with Ferguson down the right sideline for a 72-yard touchdown pass moments later to open up a three-touchdown lead 2:46 into the fourth quarter. Willie Lombard scored for the Panthers on a two-yard run with 9:42 on the clock, but Giller answered with a two-yard scoring run just 2:14 later. WestConn senior S
Deshaun Hardy-Walker (Newark, N.J.) intercepted a Lombard pass at the Panther 22-yard line to set up the final touchdown of the day which came on a three-yard run by Giller.
Plymouth State had scored first on a 57-yard spring up the middle to the end zone by Lombard just 89 seconds into the game, while Holmes scored the first Wolves touchdown on a five-yard run with 4:34 remaining until the first break. Shawn Harrington scored for the Panthers from one yard out 43 seconds into the second quarter. The WestConn offense totaled 486 yards, as Holmes and Giller combined for 142 yards on the ground, and Allen added 61 receiving yards on seven catches.
