BOSTON, Mass. - The Western Connecticut State University women's soccer team battled to a 3-3 tie at Little East Conference nemesis UMass Boston on Saturday afternoon at James Cotter Field. With the deadlock, the Wolves moved to 9-5-3 overall and 4-1-1 in league play, while the Beacons went to 9-3-4 and 4-1-1.
The squads traded goals the entire contest. The Wolves drew first blood when senior forward
Adriana Alfano (New Milford, Conn.) canned her sixth goal of the season. The Beacons countered less than two minutes later when Sofia Schallmo netted her 15th of the campaign. The visitors took the lead once again when junior backer
Hannah Blacher (Allendale, N.J.) buried an unassisted tally, giving WestConn a 2-1 lead at the break.
Schallmo connected on a penalty kick attempt in the 61st minute to knot the count at 2-2. WestConn junior
Sophia Onek (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) put the Wolves back on top when she answered with a penalty kick strike in the 70th minute. WestConn seemed poised to come away with the victory, however, Schallmo blasted a shot into the twine just five minutes later, rounding the count out at 3-3.
Each team finished with 22 shots, while the Beacons held a slight edge in corners, 8-5. WestConn sophomore keeper
Gracen Regan (Monroe, N.J) notched five saves while a pair of Beacon netminders combined for nine stops.
The Wolves return to the field when they host the University of Southern Maine in an LEC tilt on October 26 at Noon.
