Alyssa Virtue (Groton, Conn.) added a double-double on 10 points and 13 rebounds but it wasn't enough as the Western Connecticut State University women's basketball team fell at Plymouth State University, 74-56, in a Little East Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon at Foley Gym. Senior guard

Brianna Wilcox led the Panthers with 19 points and seven off the glass, while Ashley Stephens contributed 15 points and another seven rebounds. Hailey Malozzi joined them in double figures with 10 points.
The hosts utilized their depth as its reserves accounted for 30 points while the visitors bench managed just seven. Plymouth held the advantage on the interior, racking up 36 points-in-the-paint while limiting WestConn to 16. The Panthers finished 28-of-57 (49 percent) from the field while the Wolves connected on 17-of-49 (35 percent) attempts.
The hosts jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead and would not look back. Lauren Keller drilled a three-pointer, stretching the gap to 21-12 to conclude the opening quarter. Plymouth extended it to a 22-point advantage late in the second when Raegan Peck added another trifecta.
The Wolves sliced the lead to 15 points in the second half but couldn't pull any closer. With the loss, WestConn dropped to 5-13 overall and 1-8 in league play, while Plymouth evened their record at 8-8 and 4-4. The Wolves return to the court when they host UMass Boston in another conference tilt on Wednesday at 5 p.m.
